Iceland is special. Travel is special. The world is small. I’ve been a few places, I am lucky. This was my return to Iceland – my personal favorite place to visit . 9 days on the island, toured the South and West. I joined a tour with Artic Exposure, they arrange an incredible experience. I stayed in areas this time, exploring sites a few times, getting to see them in different light and weather. I chose this tour because it was winter. Glaciers, Northern Lights, Snow, the sun went down, the colors were gorgeous.
Being out of the country with all that is going on was strange. The virus was a conversation daily. There were strange moments like empty airports or seeing so many people in masks. I love to travel, I plan on returning to Iceland again, I hope. to take a photography tour with me in the future. As for a show of the photos, I have not decided yet. I have been asked a few times, I will consider it. I have not gone through them all yet. They may pop up now and then in the dailypic as I process.
The one above is from the drone, it was shot over water on the South Shore in Reynisfjara. We were chasing light for the sunset. We got stuck in the snow. I sent the drone out to catch this reflection as a. storm was coming in. The clouds are creeping from the left, in a matter of minutes the color would be gone and snow would be falling at a good rate. The drone did not beat the snow back, but the shot was. worth it.

Josephina Smalls the Great has been here a week and today will be the last of consecutive dog photos. I promise she will still show up. In this past week she has had many adventures, meetings, trips, and visits and has fit in naturally. The house has been empty since Parker passed in Jan 2015. We spent the ‘dog free’ time taking trips without worrying about a dog, we did some work on the house, we enjoyed hair free floors, but not one day passed that someone did not ask when we would be getting a new dog. It was always a matter of when. Without the family knowing, I had been planning for months, finding breeders, researching breeds, trying to figure timing and then I found the awesome Christine at Mountain Bliss. It all worked out, we got on a list and waited, the numbers worked out that I had last pick of a litter of 8. That could not have been better, I have no idea how I would have picked if I had to choose, I was told ‘all of them’ was not an option. Christine handed us Josie and I had a dog again. There are toys everywhere, doorways blocked, holes in my yard, nights of standing in the yard in the dark and cold rain (seriously has rained every day since I started house training a dog) and bite marks on my arms, hands, feet, head. It is all perfect. She came to us 7 days ago weighing in about just about 12lbs, today she weighs 15lbs and is taller. At this rate she be 2 ton by January. We will take it, like I said the house was empty until last week, there is plenty of space for her.

8 week vs 9 week
Josie has been here 5 days and she is already bigger… at her vet visit yesterday she weighed in at 12lbs. By my guess, looking at these paws, she will be 300lbs by the end of the week.

In August of 2004 my wife and I had tickets to see Prince in Boston. I do not recall buying them, I do recall almost not going. Two young kids, and crappy job, just tired all the time, the last thing I wanted to do was drag myself to Boston, traffic, deal with the parking, crowds, it was so hot. I was ready to give my ticket away to her mother, sister, a friend… anyone but me. She convinced me last minute to shut up and just go. I have seen more concerts than many, that show was the best performance I had seen and probably ever will see, by anyone. It was a religious experience, the man was awe inspiring. His talent, his energy, his appreciation for the crowd, I talk about that show more than any other one I’ve seen, we were just talking with friends saying I want to go see him again. I am truly fortunate I went that hot August night. It is a sad loss, among so many other resent sad losses. R.I.P. Prince Rogers Nelson.

The Clown Couple
December 30, 2014
This shoot took a strange turn… now, I shoot many toys, and the secret is to make them look like they have personality. Catch them in a moment, just as you would with a person. Today my son and I went to the annual sale at Rubber Chicken Comics and I grabbed some figures for 50% off. Each year I stock up on some toys for photos. I have got requests for more girls focused characters in my shots. Harley, Bat-girl, Wonder Woman, all have been mentioned. There are so many young girls out there loving the superhero world as much or more than boys. So I grabbed a fun looking Harley Quinn. This was going to be her session. I started with just her, her Joker doll and mallet, she does not want to stand at all, tiny feet and the balance of the doll made it a challenge but got it to work. I was all set with the solo Harley shot, same pose as the dailypic, figured I would toss the Joker figure from the same series in for ONE photo. The first one taken was the one above… here is where the strange turn comes in… no joke, they had chemistry. The way she looks at him, the grin on his face. It looks like they were having a conversation. I started to move them around, her hand is curved to hold the mallet, but it also could hold his hand. It was so weird, I started treating them like a wedding couple… I know, I lost my mind, but look at the shots. They tell a story of this couple. The close up with the torsos cropped, I have that shot in my wedding portfolio, just replace the Joker doll with a bouquet. Feel free to judge me, I don’t mind. I always have my toys.
