This week’s Snowman Sunday is a little glasshouse candle holder with painted windows. Candles, Fire, Snowman, don’t seem to go together, but here we are.

I was roaming around a Newbury Comics the other day and there sat John McClane in the New section of Funko Pops. I thought my friend Ray would like him for his man cave, his birthday is this weekend, he is helping me out at my Cuba show, I grabbed it for him. It sat in the studio for a few days, taunting me… John wanted his picture taken. Is it rude to open something you are giving to another person as a gift, then repackage it? So I decided I would ask to borrow it back, but that seemed even more rude. So I figured if I am going to open it, we are doing a photo worthy of being the gift, more than the figure. Next thing I know I am duct taping an old pane of glass from a broken frame so when I smash it with the ball peen hammer it won’t shatter all over the studio. Few pieces of wood left over from the barn build, the cold air return as a backdrop and broken glass placed at his bare feet wearing gloves. Natural light from the late afternoon sun, with a reflector hitting the glass to light up the outside of ‘Nakatomi Plaza’. Yippee ki-yay Melon Farmer (got to keep it PG for the audience), then back in the box. Added to the gift bag a printed/framed version of this photo. Not rude right?

Happy New Year’s. 2017 got kicked around a bit, but I was a fan. 2017 had a ton of highlights for us. A few were Dan started performing, including singing with Ellis Paul, Anna graduated MHS and started BSU, Dan got his license, the family went to Iceland and Tim Rice Photo’s 10th year was it’s biggest yet. I wish you all a Happy New Year, see you in 2018.

Tonight it was another technique I have been meaning to try. Glass dish with a flat bottom, filled with water, add cooking oil, put a cloth with color/pattern below the dish, then shoot through with macro lens. Ran out of light before I got many shots. Really only happy with two. I will try again soon.

Thank God for the “prop beers” in the mini fridge hidden down in the basement. I am not a beer drinker, but this is the 3rd time I have used this 6 pack somehow in a photo. Those that have followed awhile know I have done a shot like this before. It was to celebrate the (then) brand new trp pint glasses. I figured another one in honor of the 100 degree day might make a nice shot. Took 3 beers to get this one right, the fence post and the grass in the yard are soaked with beer. I am sure those wild animals that have taken over the yard will be buzzed by morning. Drunk squirrels and rabbits trying to run a straight line should be fun to watch. If you’re interested, the pint glasses are for sale. I bought a bunch last year and I am down to the last few. $10 a piece, local only, I tried mailing not worth the hassle, sorry. Limited supply! Let me know. Some more beer shots are below and check out the great tune “Bucket of Beer” by Justin & Ray to get in the mood, click here. Stay cool.

Day’s End
November 8, 2012
So, there are days I just do not want to take a picture. Today was one of those days, just no ambition. When I get into this rut it turns into a production, every time. I just wanted to take a picture of the new glasses I had made. I tried a shot, I did not like it. So I filled it with water, I did not like it. So I poured a soda into it, I did not like it. So I figured it should be a beer. I don’t drink. I had one beer in the house. I poured it, I did not like it. Now the beer is flat, so I went to the store and bought a 6-pack. Came back, poured another one, still did not like it.
Finally, after the second Narraganset, and I got it. About an hour total, on a day that I did not want to take a picture. I do this to myself. Anyway… cool glasses huh?
