You ever taken a dailypic of a green bug and think, people would not like this… then the next day come across a spider and it’s dependants and know they will not like this so much more.

In a quest to find a missing item that reminds missing- I have even more old stuff I have found instead. Last night the old coins, today a box of slides I took in 1996. This here is my first studio. The lights were bought that day, I drove to WB Hunt in Melrose and bought my first studio lighting kit, bare bulb, metal dishes, constant lighting. They recently returned to me by way of a friend who bought them when I upgraded. It is kind of neat to have them back for nostalgic purposes. On the same day, I made those sawhorses and stand, I recall driving back from Medway Lumber with 2x4s hanging out of the window my bright green Geo Metro. I had cleared a space in the garage of the renovated barn (foreshadowing) that served as my first apartment here in Medway.
Now the camera is the best part, it is a twin-lens Yashica Medium format 120 camera. The thing as a well used, hand me down. I can say it deserved a better tripod than the KMart special it is sitting upon in this photo. I was just thinking earlier this week how it took me so long to realize a tripod is a worthy investment. I cheaped out on them for so many years, decades even. And just recently I believe I have the two tripods I will probably have for the rest of my life. Invest in a good tripod kids.
Why this setup? It was a lighting assignment for one of my college photography classes. I have 23 photos of eggs. Just eggs. I can tell as the light was moved what I was going for, boredom. I remember shooting both slides and 120 film that night. I developed the film by hand, I am sure the negs are around somewhere. The eggs have never ben seen again.

This is another shot that has kicked around for a while, been part of my sketch book of ideas. Would not have worked with a regular carton of eggs, so I took a trip to BJ’s last night and grabbed 5 dozen. I was asked twice on the way from the register to my truck if I was coloring all these eggs. My quick answer of “uhm, no.” seemed to puzzle both, or maybe it was the look of “why are you talking to me?”. Either way none of the eggs have been colored. I am not going to take the time to do the math but 5 dozen eggs is a lot of eggs. And seems to cause an issue when you buy them without telling your wife not to buy the standard egg supply for the house… we have a lot of eggs now. After the shot we hard-boiled half of them. That made for some cool macro shots. I have another Legoboy shot planned for tomorrow involving candy. Sorry for those who do not like the toy shots (yes there are some out there, and they have told me, so I know who they are), but I have a Lego Bunny Suit, I have to shoot it on Easter, it only makes sense.
