A day with the family, dogs and drone… somewhere in between food. A great day.

So I got glasses a few weeks back, they spend more time “lost” than on, I truly hate them. Today they became useful though, like everything else that comes in my house they are now props. They look better on Josie anyway.

thedailypic•Yr8•174/365•2731•It’s Puppy Day

I once was told that a holiday was “made up”, I can’t recall which one they were referring to… my response was, they are all made up. The calendar is made up… there are no “natural holidays” that predate us. Anyway, it was not well received. I am sure they were aggravated with me since they were trying to make a different point, but today would be one of their made up days… National Puppy Day. How rude of me, I should had started with, Happy Puppy Day to you and yours! Sorry about that. We like Puppy Day. We like puppies. Last year the dailypic on puppy day was a stuffed Bernese Mountain Dog. I offered no explanation, but that was the day we let the kids in on the secret, we had a new puppy coming in about a month. It was a big deal, especially since it was very hard on the family when we lost Parker the previous year. A year later and Josie is a year old and a huge part of the family. We all vote, she deserves a day, made up or not. So again, Happy Puppy Day.

thedailypic•Yr8•162/365•2719•Cat & Dog

This is the first photo of these 2 together. 10 months in sharing the house and this is a huge deal. Very early in the relationship, Misty the cat (16 years old) set the tone. Hissing, hitting and attitude. Misty owns this place, and Josie is very aware. She knows to always keep a distance, and obeys the rules very well. Even setting up this shot made Josie nervous, she is not comfortable being this close to greatness. It lasted 2 seconds.

thedailypic•Yr8•154/365•2711•Josie Smalls Turns One

Josie turned one today, which in this house means a photo shoot. She was a champ with her new hat. Happy Birthday Josie! The comparison shots are 8 weeks old vs today. 10lbs to 90lbs in 10 months. As sweet today as she was the day we brought her home.

thedailypic•Yr8•126/365•2683•Josephina Smalls the Great

Josephina Smalls the Great (this photo seems to demand we use her full name) is 11 months old today. The regal beast is 90+ lbs and still the sweetest thing in our lives.

thedailypic•Yr8•119/365•2676•A Well Trained Dog

Josie will be 11 months next week. She is 90ish lbs and the sweetest thing on the planet, but we had a few things to work on. A 90lb puppy that loves to jump on you to say hello is only cute the first time, she liked to keep your hand, in her mouth, she pawed at your legs to get attention, sit was pretty good, but down, come, stay, etc. well those were good when she wanted them to be so we needed some more training. She had been to puppy classes at AlphaDog K9 Training in Medway a few times and it had helped with some of the basics, it had been 15 years since I had a puppy. At the end of last year I saw an announcement from Christina, the owner and dog whisperer queen, at Alpha about an extensive training. 9 full day classes for Josie, 3 classes for us, all over 3 weeks. We debated on spending the money, I mean, nothing she was doing was bad, or mean, everyone loves Josie… but her “manners” really could use a boost. I work two jobs, we have two teenagers we are managing, school, life, time is limited. So we signed up. It only took until the second class to see a difference. Manners, we have manners, we greet seated, we hit the ground when we say ‘down’, sit on stop, walks are a breeze. All just fine tuning that made a great dog perfect. It is one of the best investments I have made in a long time. Josie is so proud of herself too, she really is, she loves showing off what she has learned. And the classes for us were great, I learned I ask instead of direct the dog, we all learned that when Dan says ‘sit’… we all need to sit. Tonight was the last pick up, we will miss our 3 days a week with Christina, but we will be back to say hi. Thanks to Christina and the staff at AlphaDog from all of us.
