I headed to Iceland for a quick trip. Four days on the south shore. I through this trip together a couple of weeks back. Each time I come to Iceland, I try to get to Vestahorn, a mountain I saw briefly five years ago that I would love to see in a different light. But it is always a bit outside the travel plans to make it worth the drive. So, I decided to make a trip with that spot was the main focus. I got on a plane last night at 8 pm Eastern time, landed at 1 am Eastern time (6 am in Iceland), got in a truck in the dark, and started the six-plus hour drive to Hofn, Iceland, arriving back in the dark 12 hours later. So, seeing Vesterhorm will wait for sunrise.

Along the way, I made stops at other locations that deserved more time. Vik was one of them. One of my favorite cities in the country. I have never been above the Vik Church, looking back, a very famous and often photographed view. The church is on the highest part of town, overlooking the Reynisdrangar Seastacks and the village on the shore. The church is believed to be the only building/spot that would not get flooded if Katla, the local volcano, erupted, making this spot the meeting point if nature were to act.
