My wife has been under the weather for a couple of weeks, so today I assisted with the food shopping. In our house we have some natural divisions of labor, nothing dramatic, but I rarely handle groceries. It just never made sense—she’s a remarkable cook, so why would I be the one picking the ingredients?
Since she’s still not feeling great, I joined her today. Market Basket.
Wow. That is a special place. I’ve probably been there ten times in my life, and eight of those were quick in-and-out trips. Today was one of the rare full experiences. I’m good for another five years.
Don’t let this aisle fool you—around every corner, there are thousands of people, all angry.
The biggest issue I have is the squares on the floor. The shelves need to be fixed so the lines line up. It’s unnerving. Move every aisle to the left about five inches, and the universe would be back in balance. I looked for a suggestion box but couldn’t find one. I’m convinced this is what subconsciously makes everyone angry in there.
We need balance in the universe. This chaos can’t be healthy.

I knew by the picture that you were in Market Basket before I read your caption! I have a love-hate relationship with that store. Love their prices but hate the store.
It is always MAYHEM there. Week of Thanksgiving? Mayhem. Random Tuesday morning? Mayhem.
Side note… we moved to the Myrtle Beach area and there is a grocery store, called Lowe’s Foods, and there is a beer and wine bar! You can walk around and sip on a beer! This is the only way to grocery shop for me now.
Tim you are hilarious. Every time I go there I say why are people so angry?? lol I only go once in awhile.
Hope Barbie is feeling better.
So, a couple of things, “The Food G-ds” know when an interloper is present in the store…. You need to stay away.
Don’t you worry Arthur T is getting right on this right after he finds out if he’s still the boss.
Sadly, I have to agree with you as that would make me nuts also.
And finally, I knew she should not have gone to that g-d forsaken desert sh*thole for work…. ewwwww.
Even though I agree with you it is better than foraging in the great outdoors..
Agreed!! That place makes me ill…
