Nothing wrong with a selfies now and then, without them I would not have many photos with me in them. To be honest I owe a lot to selfies… without them a lot of things would be different. I once owned a 1-hr photo lab in Medway, The Photoshop. I bought it from a family in 1996, prior to that I worked there, prior to that I was a customer, prior to that I had a habit of picking up other people’s cameras and taking photos of myself (selfies before they were cool). I am talking 1991, 1992, which seems so far away now. One day in the early 90’s I walked into Copi’s Photo – and the woman behind the counter said “you are the guy in all the photos!”. Apparently all those times I had picked up others cameras, many time without even knowing who owned the camera, had made an impression on the people that developed the film. They may have been the only ones who appreciated the humor in my running gag. I am sure there are photos of me that have been thrown away over and over from that time. We got to talking, a few months later I was working there 1 day week, then a few days a week, eventually full-time and within years I owned the place. It all started with selfies, before they even had a name. It feels like there should be a moral to this story, I have no idea, it would have been nice to end with one. I know I pissed a few people off with the photos. Film was precious back then. Oh well, if you might have one of my early 90’s selfies let me know. I do promise if you ever had something other than a face on a roll of film that you didn’t know where it came from, well that was NOT me… but I do know a guy it might be. That’s a different story.
