A few weeks back, Dan asked to go to Boston to shoot photos. He wanted to borrow one of my cameras and get back into photography. So today, I armed him with one of my Nikons, my Zf, and my favorite street camera. I took my Hasselblad, and we hit the Common, Acorn Street, Faneuil Hall, and Government Center. A fun walk, a great time just hanging out, talking photograph, looking for stories, and whatever else came up. He did a great job and had great questions. We talked a lot about long exposures and played with dealing with bright light. I used the carousel as an example of long exposures, handheld in the noon sun. Other than the carousel shot, Dan took all the rest. I will share mine tomorrow. He even gave me a blurb to share. So this is Dan’s dailypic.
From Dan:
“My Dad didn’t show much excitement when I asked him to really learn about taking photos, probably since he’s heard it 100 times from age 10-23. This time I meant it, so today my Dad and I drove into Boston to take pictures of the Memorial Day displays in Boston. The whole time I asked him questions, one about how his sunglasses could effect his photos, “I’ve never thought about that before” was his response, it was like fooling Penn & Teller.
I picked this picture as the daily pic because it was one of the first pictures I took that day and was the first picture I think I’ve taken where I learned something. I was asking about what to capture and he said “I want these two guys to be near each other, or hand the flag to someone” so the second he looked away I got it. There is a story to the picture, just like he told me there would be.”

Great shots, Dan. Keep practicing and keep asking questions.
More proof that Tim should be offering photography workshops. Great work Dan!
What a Wonderful Day! Memories last forever…
Your post made my heart happy! My Dad passed away a few years ago this month…so it was really sweet to read about you two spending time together. Thanks for sharing your day!
Agree with above, being able to share a day with your son is awesome. This is like “take your son to work day”only better. I see Dan could not resist putting performers into his photos. a true performer to the end….. Excellent.
My only question is Dan can be Penn, but can Tim be Teller!!!….
Dan you are so fortunate to have the best teacher!!
Excellent shots telling stories just like your Dad.
He might not of shown excitement but he was, just to be able to spend the day with you and give you his expertise!!
