The Medway Historical Society dropped off a collection of old glass negatives from the late 1800s. I have been photographing them to convert them to positive images for their collection. Even though most have minimal details to accompany them, they are interesting to look at. From an artistic standpoint, these are incredible images considering the time they were taken. One in the box did have a sheet of paper accompanying it. The negative above, and the converted image is below. Now the paper could have been mixed in, though it seems like it belonged to this particular image. Listing names and addresses. The list says Framingham – like that is where the photo was taken, and it seems to be from a gathering in 1894. It seems to be a family. The addresses are all Medway locations. Many are on my street, and two are the addresses surrounding my house/studio. So here I have a negative from almost 130 years ago of people that would have been my neighbors, houses only yards away from me as I type this. There are other addresses I know too, some from the street I grew up on, family names I knew and still know. Just crazy how small the world and time is. I will leave it up to the Historical Society to see if they can put more detail into the photos, but these photos are incredible. It is nice to meet some neighbors, they look good for thier age.

Cool. Can you imagine what a bit of facial recognition might be able to do with a photo such as this?
