The first session back in the studio since February. So it seems right it was with these three. They have been in front of my camera many times. I hope 2020 lets them wear these dance costumes in front of an audience as they deserve.

Back to Cuba for a post, I still have not gone through all of them, and I enjoy discovering what I have as I try to get them all processed. This afternoon I found myself with some time and looked at the dance photos. Our last night in Havana our group headed back to the entrance of Havana Bay where we had been at sunrise a few days before. This time it was sunset, and we would be joined by two young ballerinas who would pose for us to photograph. I love taking dance photos, 15 years of practice with my daughter and Medway Dance Authority has made it, so I actually know what great dance looks like, and these two young ladies were incredible. Not only in talent but the poise and ability to tolerate 12 cameras pointed at them while onlookers stared and mingled in one of the most visited spots in Havana. Fisherman, families, tourists, the place was packed with people, and these two danced as if no one was around. So grateful for their grace set upon a striking backdrop of Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro built in the 16th century one way, and in the other direction the sun setting over the Malecon. Thanks to my friends Eli and Jordan at Your Cuba Travel, and Don and Laura with Hunt Photo Adventures for setting opportunities like this up for us while we were on the trip. It is stuff like this that makes a trip unique and unforgettable.

Anna is in the middle of her last recital weekend. Her last recital is Sunday, then she graduates from the studio that is a part of our family. Anna has been at Medway Dance Authority since 2004. I love watching her dance. I wrote boundless for her many years back after a show.

The rain went away, so we went for a hike, 1785′ up to the peak of Mt. Major in Alton, Nh. Great hike, awesome view, perfect day. Anna used the opportunity to display some dance moves. I would have too, but the 90min hike had left me winded.

Today is Anna’s recital day, I was able to take photos at her rehearsal yesterday. Recital weekend is the craziest weekend we have every year… we look forward to the chaos, and yet here we are with only one left after today. Watching her dance is one of my favorite honors. I wrote this years ago for her immediately after a recital. It becomes harder for me to read each year.
boundless: an ode to her dance
at the verge of a tear he watches her dance. the music lost to the moment, his focus only on her silence and grace. the others fall softly away, each delicately dance to a fade. he is her witness, this moment is the evidence. memories play simultaneously as if in sync with her elegance. her birth, her smile, her hand holding his, her crying for courage, her laughter from love. how young she’s become to his old, how she has grown, how sad the days count can be. all caught as she floats across their stage. this dance, her dance, his dance pulls him back. enjoy this new memory, remember as her smile never falters, as his tear wins the moment, as she moves… boundlessly – tr.june.2009
Anna and I hung out in the city last night. Dinner in Faneuil Hall, walk along the water and Columbus Park.

Unique Feet
May 20, 2015
Anna and I had our 4th annual Medway Dance Authority photo shoot. The last week of each year, we have gone into a class and had a fun session. We have jumped as a group, done “force” photos, been superheroes and this year it was fun socks with pointe shoes.

Anna En Pointe
August 28, 2014
Today was “Pointe Shoe Fitting Day” which until today, I was unaware was a holiday. I put some cash on the table this morning and this afternoon it was replaced with a proud grin on my daughter’s face. I am told there will be ribbons, bling, flair or something else will be added to them later, but for now these are the shoes I have been told about for years. I know far too much about Pointe Shoes, toes, arches, heels, I can not wait to see what she does with them.

The Common Dance
May 27, 2014
I take no credit for this shoot, this was the plan of my daughter. it was brought to my attention a few weeks back. As soon as dance class ended, we would go to Boston and photograph her in various dance poses. Once class ended, she would use her dance shoes outside. I chose Boston Common as the location, I wanted to incorporate as many people in the scene as we could… that was a debate. We compromised with some here and there. My favorite shot is the one next to the vendor cart from a distance. There were plenty of people watching her, and I was far enough away that it took people some time to realize what was going on. Check out the rest below.

World Needs Heroes
May 14, 2014
This is the 3rd year that Miss Jen at Medway Dance Authority had me in for a fun photo session with my daughter’s dance class. A couple of years ago we shot only their feet as the jumped, last year we had a very cool “Use the Force” photo (click here to see), this year had a theme… superheroes. The girls brought beach towels for capes and whatever else they wanted as a costume. My daughter wore her Superman shirt, this is her taking off. We had a blast. I saved the color versions for the girls. I have no idea what I going to do next year, they have way more energy than me.
