After a better part of a year with some significant foot problems, that are really not solved yet, hiking in the snow, with way too much camera gear strapped to my back does not sound like a great idea, but I did it… actually, we did it, the team I am with here in Iceland. And not with a hiccup or two, but in the end, I would do it again tomorrow. Actually, I was just told 30 minutes ago, I might be. I might trek lighter this time. To walk out to, among, and even on glaciers is just something. The scale is incredible, you can see below how small we are to these scenes. I could not walk through the opening for safety reasons, but I did send the drone in, which will show up later. The most beautiful blue, it was a perfect day.

Set up the tripod in the pouring rain, framed the bush in the back yard with the neighbor floodlight and lit my foreground with a flashlight, and here we are.

A favorite waterfall in New Hampshire. We snowshoed down to the base of Glen Ellis Falls in Gorham. It looked slightly different than when we saw it last October.

Moving things around in the barn to prep for Holiday Photos, walk by the back window that faces west. The curtain is drawn, but I can see red hues sneaking in the sides. A pullback to the curtain and the sky is on fire. Not 5 minutes before I was outside shooting snow on a bench, for today’s dailypic. It was drizzling and raw, nothing special, but made sense for the day. Then the sky put on a show. I grab the drone, no memory card, internal memory is full, maybe room for one shot. Three batteries, all under 10%, been slacking. Knowing this sky will not last long, I send it up anyway, the controller is screaming at me… battery low forced landing will begin, over and over, before I am 3 feet off the ground. I get 100 feet, I snap this one shot, and I land. In minutes, the show is gone, back to gray and blah. For a moment, the gray, snow, rain, cold, raw day was pretty. Orginal pick for the day below. Would have been called “Ready or Not.”

Got the drone out over another snowy day. Couple days ago it was low shots, these I got a bit higher.

The camera was on a tripod, it was the world that was unstable.

I left a tote outside and it filled with rain and froze, now I have a huge block of ice. Propped it up as a backdrop and lit some long matches against it.
