Marathon Monday. Photo-wise, I did something very different from previous years. Normally, I have hundreds of photos from the race; this year, there are many fewer. Normally, I use my Nikon Z9, a long, fast lens, and all top-of-the-line modern equipment, but this year that has not been the case. I brought three cameras with me; not one of them had autofocus – all were manual focus, and only one camera body was made this century.
A Nikon Zf, with two lenses: Leica Leitz Elmarit-R 135mm f/2.8 from 1968, Leica 50mm Summicron-R lens from 1970. Digital files.
A Rolleiflex 3.5f Medium-format camera, which I thought had its light leak fixed, seems I was wrong. 120mm color film.
A Leica IIIf with a Canon 50mm f/1.4 LTM (The “Japanese Summilux”), Camera 1952 and Lens 1968. 35mm black and white film.
Not one of these made it easy to shoot runners, but digital, high-speed cameras are younger than sports photography, so it has been done before, though I did not see many film cameras today on the sidelines.
