This is always a day I wrestle with when it comes to the dailypic. What should it be? Over the years it has been flags, fire trucks, ceremonies, or just quiet scenes. I feel like it should be simple, almost muted, out of respect.
This afternoon I took this photo of the sky, and it felt right. Later, Dan came home and told me about his morning. On his way into school, the band teacher asked if he knew the Springsteen song “My City of Ruins.” He didn’t, but he learned it quickly. During the morning announcements, the school paid tribute to 9/11. At the end, Dan, Sean B – the band teacher, a few music students – some seniors and juniors played the song live over the speakers.
He shared it with me, and I had the name for this picture. Rise Up.
