Ten feet from my desk in the studio is my bird feeder, just outside a screenless window. Nice days, rainy days, cold days, snowy days, if you come by the studio, there is a good chance the window is open. There is usually a camera armed with a 70-200mm lens on the desk, ready for when I hear something at the feeder. It can be very dust4actining. The only benefit is I have to swivel 90 degrees in the chair to see the action. Otherwise, I would be staring at it, not getting much work done. 10:15-10:45 am is prime bird time. Around noon the squirrels show. Today this one was on the window sill, the open window sill, inches from being in the barn with me, staring right at me when I turned to see what the noise was. A quick jump to the feeder was the view I had for the next 15 minutes or so. Two live right next to the barn in an old owl box I put up a few years back. I have gotten better at being more patient with them and only chasing them away when they are hogging the feeder. If they start coming into the barn, we will have a problem.
They should feel honored though they are the 4500th dailypic. It got me thinking about 5000. So I did the math – dailypic 5000 would be June 9, 2023. I think I can make it. That’s an impressive number. What’s another 500 right? We will see. Thanks for looking, even if it’s the back end of a squirrel. Tomorrow’s dailypic should be cool (fingers crossed). I got the fire department involved for the next shoot. Stay tuned.

We LOVE to watch the squirrels! They are the clowns of the backyard. I’ve yet to see an owl, but we hear plenty. I very impressive record you ‘be set with a pic a day!
