Col. Michael F. Matondi, US Army Retired
Date: February 10, 2019, Age: 98, Lifelong Medway resident, Occupation: Enlisted in the Massachusetts National Guard in 1938, inducted in Active Army in 1940, Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1942 and deploying overseas for WWII beginning in North Africa 1943, upon return from war served in US Army Reserve from 1946 – 1976. Served as Chief of Recreation Services, Department of Veteran Affairs Brockton/West Roxbury until 1990. Born in Medway in 1920. Served on numerous town committees and as a member of many groups. Notably formal Director of Civil Defense for the Town of Medway, organized the Veteran’s Memorial Committee serving as chairman from approximately 1960-2017, still serving as a member. Also a current elected member of the Medway Housing Authority. “Medway has been in my heart all my life. I am very proud of my contributions and that of many volunteers to the benefit of the town. I’m also thankful to the town for giving me the opportunity to contribute. I feel very positive about everything being accomplished in the town and the advancements that have been made. In my lifetime I have seen the town grow in so many wonderful ways. Medway is a fantastic place to live and raise multiple generations of family.”
