Had a great trip camping in Franconia, NH with the family. Completed just before midnight last night. It is a 1hr and 13min exposure. ISO 400, f16 with a 28mm lens. I am not a patient person, these shots test me as much as any I take. I set them up in the dark, I use a flash light to focus on trees on the fringe of the shot. Lock the cable release and walk away, instantly I think it is not focused right, I did not get the correct frame or something else is wrong. the only way to check it is to start over.. which in turn resets the anxiety. I took one the night before that was about 20min long, I wished it was longer. So, this one was, but it was every bit of energy I had not to check it sooner and I still wished I waited a full 2 hours like I had planned. Maybe next year. Below are more night shots I took on the trip. The last 2 (rocks in water and bridge) are a technique I have wanted to try for a while… light painting. There was no light for these shots, I focused using a flashlight, then locked the frame open for 30sec. I then used the light (a very powerful light I bought just for this) and “painted the scene”. Just the parts I wanted illuminated.
