Two days late, but I had time today to sit through some of my photos from 2024. I went speed around through twelve months worth of photos, tried not to overthink it, and just flagged ones that connected with me. I took 211,296 photos (not counting phone or film photos).
Taking school and sports photos off the lists, I tried to find photos I took for myself rather than ones I was paid to take. Though a couple of paid photos made the set, I think it is a good representation of things I saw, thanks to the camera. The camera and I had gone to NYC a few times last year, Ellis Island, Iceland, all over New England, California, and Joshua Tree, and saw the eclipse, the northern lights, a comet, and a perfectly timed rainbow over a special family.
This was harder than you would think, but not for the reason you might assume. 200k+ photos, and I struggled to get to 30 I “loved” enough to share again. I am too hard on myself, and I connect with photos for many different reasons, so some that might look like an ordinary photo might mean more to me for the experience of taking it.
Here are the 29 I found that fit the made-up rules in my head. Happy New Year. I aim to reach 30 in 2025.
