I had another photo for the dailypic, and I will share it Monday, which seems to be a leftover day lately. This is the Moon from tonight’s sky before the clouds rolled in. I was walking from the studio to my house and there it was, and I stopped and stared at it. It’s been a day, details are unnecessary, but the Moon distracted me for a few minutes, lost in thought until I grabbed a camera. It was nice to zone out for a few moments. Then it triggered a stream of thoughts. No one has ever really seen the whole Moon at once, even when it is “full,” that is really only half.
We only see what the light allows us to see. Portions, pieces, sometimes only slivers, and even then the light determines not only what we see, but how we see it. There is a crater just about in the middle on the edge of the shadow in this photo. See it? It is all I see when I look at this photo. It is beautiful but were the Moon full we would not notice it. It is only because of the light and lack of light that we see that blemish tonight. Though I think it is the best part of this image. It is what I focus on.
This is what was going through my head in my driveway as I avoided the other thoughts of the day. Then this takes a deeper turn. The Moon is like a person. Same deal, we never see the whole thing, only what the light allows us. Sometimes we see more than others, sometimes there are blemishes that are hidden by the light. I am sure there are many people we think we know fully, yet as a full Moon, we miss parts. Like I said it was a day, but thankfully the night sky reminded me of some simple things. There is always more to see.
