So many trees were lost over the winter. This one was in Evergreen Cemetery in Medway, in the back grove section. I knew it well. It was on my walking path for the last 15 years. I leaned against it while my kids learned to ride bikes, I know I used it as a mar ker for Anna when I was teaching her to drive, “start hitting the brake as you get to that tree.” A quick count with old eyes, I got somewhere over 85 rings. The history of those rings would be incredible to read, looks like there were some droughts in its 20’s, and even more recently. Think of all the mourners it saw in over 80, yet it most likely snapped cold and alone. It is one impressive stump now a place to sit instead of lean.
