One, thank you to all who reached out to tell me yesterday’s photos were not as bad as I sold them to be, it was very kind. I knew they were not bad. Just they were not the result I wanted. Two, tonight’s set is much closer but still not perfect, though I am happy with the results. I wanted the collisions. There is a lot of prep to this setup, then there is math, and the final piece is luck. Yesterday I had the setup, the math was not working, and without the right math, luck is useless. Tonight I got the math right. There are two drips to these shots. Drip one hits the water and creates the implosion, and then starts back upwards. The second drop is timed and sized to hit the stream from drop one head-on, causing the reaction, and add in the light has to trigger at the very moment they hit, freezing the motion, and all this is done in the dark. Now that those parts are lined up next, I want to play with the lighting, the background, and more light options. I take a lot of notes during these shots, the height of the dropper, size of the drops, delays in the drops, when the camera is triggered, where the focus point is, so I can build off each session. In the meantime, I will call this a success, but not done.
