The Comic Man

This is one of my oldest and closest friends, Jay. Each first Saturday in May, he throws a party for Free Comic Book Day, it is a real thing (a huge real thing) go look it up. The party is held at his store, Rubber Chicken Comics in Bellingham MA. Now, I am sure he would be happy to hand out the free comics and make some sales, but this man goes over and above. Adds to the list of comics that are free, brings in artists and comic talent to meet with fans, has face painting, crafts, food and gets all his friends to dress up as superheroes – why? For the kids. He then brings me in, for I am not even sure how many years now, and I take pictures and print them for anyone that wants one. We raise money for the Jimmy Fund in the process. If you could see the kids reactions when they walk up and you ask them who they want a photo with… it is so cool. Poison Ivy, Spider-man, Iron Man, Storm Troopers, Agent Carter, Matt Murdock from Daredevil, The Flash, Huntress, Captain America, Thor, The Scarlet Witch and more… they are so excited. They even have the heroes sign autographs. I look forward to this date each year, and each year Jay goes over and above. I can’t wait for the fist Saturday in May!
