This was a test shot I took of a backdrop today. I had a busy day. I am in the middle of a bunch of busy days, and when I had a moment to stop and think today, the dailypic was on my mind.
Last night I went to post the dailypic to my business Facebook page, like I had 6198 times before. Facebook is the first place I ever shared the dailypic, even before it was a blog. At one time, it was getting and exceeding thousands of views a day. These days the number is much, much lower. Attention spans, algorithms, competition for eyes- I get it; this spot has felt like a chore more and more. I still love it though, and I always said I try to do this for me. Well, it’s nice that other people enjoy it too.
Well, Facebook made it impossible for me to share there last night. I was notified that for me to be able to share the link on that page, the page that I get the most views from, I would need to pay their fee (ransom) of $500 a month. Their new packages from Meta, and their AI told me that’s it: I want to share non-Facebook-created content; those are the rules. I have too much of a following to go under them, and I am not making enough money from this to pay it, so that is my new reality. I am beyond pissed. feels a lot like a money grab to me, but it’s their horrible business, and they can make any rules they want, and they did, and I hope it backfires.
Where does this leave me? My views are down; this is starting to feel like work more and more. I can’t share it where it used to be seen the most;; next Wednesday marks 17 years. What do I do? I don’t know. Like AI said, I am busy, and this isn’t something I wanted on my plate right now. I need to research alternative avenues, but I refuse to take on more work right now.
I promise I will keep this going until next Wednesday; I will make it to 17 years complete. I have a week to figure some things out. Dark day.

There are few Meta products or services that are worth that kind of money. I have no solution, magic or otherwise. What I can do is say thank you for sharing 6199+ days of your life.
