Been seeing in black and white lately. Well, not lately. For most of my life, really. I guess it is better to say I have been leaning into my black-and-white vision more lately.
I had a fellow photographer I knew who used to say black-and-white photography was lazy. They were an excellent photographer. I am not connected to them anymore; this was back in a different century, but that line always stuck with me.
I never believed it.
We can choose what we want to believe. Art is subjective, but to me, black and white does not equal lazy. What I will say is that some photographs can exist, and even demand interest, in black and white when they might not in color. This one, for example. I would challenge that it probably would not resonate with me enough to share if it were in color.
But here is the thing: we will never know. I took it with a monochrome camera. There is no color information captured at all. I love this camera because it takes that decision off the table. I am all about fewer decisions these days. Maybe that is lazy after all. Just not for the reason that fellow photographer meant.
I may be entering my lazy period. I mean, my monochrome period.

Monochrome period maybe because it’s so interesting but lazy.. not You!
Me, too.
I’m enjoying your insights on your trip. Thanks for sharing.
