One photo per day. No skipping days. The photo is usually taken that day, but not always – today it was processed.

I developed a few rolls of film I shot this week. I had space for one more in the container, so I grabbed one from the pile of found film — rolls I discovered while cataloging the cameras a few months back. This was a C-41 black-and-white roll. No idea what was on it, I only knew it was mine, some belongings to people who donated cameras.

Turns out it’s from 2021. This frame 5A was taken exactly five years ago today, May 22, 2021, during my trip to Iceland. The rest of the roll over the week-long trip. I have no memory of taking a film camera on that trip. I’m not even sure what camera these were taken with – my guess would be a Canon AE-1. I must have opened the camera and exposed the roll before it was done.

I only have 10 frames, then I ruined the negatives. Judging by the frame numbers and my memory of the trip, frame 5A was taken after midnight – 20 hours of daylight this time of year. I camped at that spot after my hike to the plane frames 3A and 4A. I have a color version of the waterfall taken with the Nikon hanging in my living room, called Skógafoss at Midnight. This might be my favorite photo I have taken of Skógafoss. I think I will print it tomorrow.

Yesterday, Romania, today I jumped over to Ireland—another set of photos finished from my personal backlog.

Ireland was an August trip with the whole family. The photos were not the focus, but I still made time to take them. It was a scouting trip for a future return. Dublin, Galway, Cork, Killarney, Kilkenny, and stops in between. Dingle and Galway were my favorites, and both spots were where I escaped for some solo exploring with the camera.

These felt great to get finished, like an itch I could not scratch for a few months. The day I got back, I jumped into the busy season, and they were set aside. It was fun to revisit the trip this way. You can check them all out by clicking here if interested.

Felt like a speed round in Ireland today— on the last day. Starting with the Blarney Stone, not my top choice, which somehow managed to take forever. From there, we hit as many spots as we could on the way to Kilkenny. One of the best stops was Cobh, beginning at St Colman’s Cathedral. Perched above the colorful town, the church is massive, ornate, and impossible to ignore. Wish we’d had more time to explore there, but I did manage to line up this silhouette with the sun perfectly balanced on the spire before we moved on.

After a day driving the Ring of Kerry, we wandered Killarney for our final night here. Tomorrow we’re off to Kilkenny, with plenty of stops along the way—including a stone to kiss. Jury’s still out on some of us in the group partaking in lip pressing against globally germ-infested rocks.

I call her Lady Râșnov, she never stopped talking—and I never understood a word. But the moment I motioned to my camera, she nodded and smiled like we’d known each other. After I took her photo, she proudly showed me a massive wheel of cheese. Still talking, still smiling. She waved and walked away, talking the whole time. We found her during a brief stop in the beautiful town of Râșnov, Romania.
