My wife has been under the weather for a couple of weeks, so today I assisted with the food shopping. In our house we have some natural divisions of labor, nothing dramatic, but I rarely handle groceries. It just never made sense—she’s a remarkable cook, so why would I be the one picking the ingredients?

Since she’s still not feeling great, I joined her today. Market Basket.

Wow. That is a special place. I’ve probably been there ten times in my life, and eight of those were quick in-and-out trips. Today was one of the rare full experiences. I’m good for another five years.

Don’t let this aisle fool you—around every corner, there are thousands of people, all angry.

The biggest issue I have is the squares on the floor. The shelves need to be fixed so the lines line up. It’s unnerving. Move every aisle to the left about five inches, and the universe would be back in balance. I looked for a suggestion box but couldn’t find one. I’m convinced this is what subconsciously makes everyone angry in there.

We need balance in the universe. This chaos can’t be healthy.

My Distracted Driving co-hosts and I went out to the Brimfield Fair today and hung out with Butch Patrick, “Eddie” from the classic show, The Munsters. Butch was awesome, he signed autographs,posed for some photos, he even drove us up and down Rte 20 in his Munsters Koach while doing an interview for our show – it will be posted in the coming weeks on our Youtube Channel, click here to subscribe. I worked for Roche Bros. Supermarket for about 6 years in my teens. One of the best jobs I ever had, I met the owners Pat and Bud Roche on a few occasions and they treated me with respect and as if I were an adult, and I remember them that way to this day. So watching the Demoulas story unfold brings a lot of those memories back, especially the idea of standing behind someone who has treated you right. Now in full disclosure, I kick and scream if my wife tries to drag me to Market Basket.  I can’t stand the place, purely on the amount of people there at any given time. The impatient, introvert in me can barely deal with the parking lot, forget about navigating the masses in the aisles. Though, today was a great day to visit, I had the place to myself… it was just me and one other customer. I am not taking sides here, I just like to shoot abandoned properties, and that is what this is. A business abandoned by both parties, the owners who have walked away from listening to the voice of their workers and workers who have abandoned their posts in the name of Arthur T Demoulas.  For the sake of all involved I hope that this is rectified soon.
