I am not sure if this is epic, but it is Lego. Another friend, Ray, gave me a Lego Camera kit for Christmas. It is great getting toys for Christmas; look at the little one and wonder why the fat, old, bearded man got her gift. She was reprimanded appropriately after the photo was taken for not minding her business and given socks.

So here we are, my new camera built on Lego Day. There is even a video of the build (boring stormy Sunday, football starts at 3). A very cool set, I like the film canister being Kodak yellow. For those concerned about the little girl’s feelings, don’t worry; she can’t read.

LEGO made a set last May named ‘Everyone is Awesome #40516’. I picked it up a few months back. I knew I could take some great photos with it when I saw it. The set comes with a bright rainbow backdrop, a great scene when assembled – which I have not done yet. Last weekend, I was reminded of it when I photographed the Pride Flag Raising. LEGO’s description is The Everyone is Awesome set celebrates positivity and kindness in our families, our communities, and our world. Seems like a great idea. Since they have great promo photos with the rainbow, I thought I would go in a different direction. I wanted to show that in the right light, we all have shadows—a commonality we can not deny. I will let the viewers decide where it goes from there. I struggled with which one to pick. Shadows as we advance, showing progress, and growth, depending on the light or support from behind. Or the strong shadow we all cast that follows us as we head towards brighter times? Both seem to have a place. I am sure this set will be included in this space again.
