Today was photo day for the Medway Amateur Basketball Association travel teams. In addition to the standard basketball poses, I offered each player a chance for a ‘faux’ fire shot – lighting balls on fire is a fade these days, one I am not overly crazy about (it might be the two house fires I have had), but that does not mean I can’t still join in with editing. One of my favorites from the day was Grace with her perfect reaction to “Now look at the ball and believe it is covered in flames.” She nailed the assignment.

I left a tote outside and it filled with rain and froze, now I have a huge block of ice. Propped it up as a backdrop and lit some long matches against it.

For the right cause I can procrastinate with the best of them. My camera tends to be the devil on my shoulder. “Instead of doing <whatever it is I am avoiding> why not shoot a photo?” It says. “Just a simple one, quick one, for the daily.” I have stuff to do, I will find a shot later, but no, it keeps calling. It becomes the Thelma to my Louise and next thing I know I have the junk draw emptied on to the kitchen table looking for matches, 2 tripods set up in the dinning room and huge glass plate under one to catch burnt match heads.  I have turned off not only the lights in the room I am in, but any adjacent room, no matter if the kids are doing homework in them or not. Lighting matches, repeating the process, an hour goes by, 200 high-speed shots are taken and we have driven that Ford Thunderbird  into the air while whatever it was I had to do sits back on the cliff.
