August 19 is World Photography Day, celebrating the art and technological advancements of photography since 1837, so it seemed like a great day to photograph my newest technology. It has appeared in a couple photos with me and it is crazy that people have noticed. A few messages, “You got a new camera?” “Hasselblad?”

I have been working with Nikon cameras for almost 20 years. I still am. I use Nikon Z9s for weddings, sports, and schools, but last year, I tried a Hasselblad. Hasselblad has always been the unobtainable tool I would wish for, something I never thought I would get. Then, from my first moments with one, it was all it was supposed to be. The camera is art that creates art. I then added a second one, the X2D, and it is perfect. There are no whistles, bells, or video capabilities, just a camera designed to document. It slows me down, and I am ready for that. My Nikon is designed to get the shot and is incredibly capable of doing so. The Hass is intended to take the shot. I see the difference.

I have been using it for headshots, senior photos, street scenes, landscapes, and nature, and I love it. The color system is like nothing I have used. The weight is perfect, the dynamic range is remarkable, and the files are gorgeous. It is not a camera for everyone, but it is for me. So on this day when technological advancements in photography are celebrated, this simple camera is the best piece of equipment I have ever used. I love photography more when I use it, and I can’t say that with all my cameras. Happy World Photography Day to all who celebrate.

Playing with the Hasselblad, the 50-year-old lens with the brand new digital back is all used to get a slightly out-of-focus photo of the dog sticking his tongue out – it’s a great world we live in.
