A less than stellar Daredevil action figure, a plastic cross, two red light sticks, one stationary on camera left, the other waved behind the figure as the photo was taken. A smoke machine was triggered by a remote directly overhead of the subject, and a 0.4-second exposure shot was taken with a macro lens at f12. I miss my toy photos.

I have been collecting comics since I was eight or so. I have a lot, too many. They are cataloged, boxed, and stored. It is time to start thinning the collection. Separating the ones I want to hold one to and the ones which will be let go. Going through them brings back memories. I know where most came from, stories that tie to times in my life, the Spider-man books are the core of the collection. I started with him and will continue, they will all be kept. The goal is to get rid of many to pick up the few I am missing from the Amazing Spider-man series. My photography is tied to Peter Parker, always has been. The shot above is the cover of a book from the 2010 mini-series – “Peter Parker,” issue #5. There was nothing special in the story, but the cover was always a favorite, drawn by a French artist, Stephanie Hans. It got placed in one of the ‘keep’ boxes today.

A COVID project of mine was to catalog my comic book collection. Took a few months but it is done, now it is time to start selling and picking up some books that complete series. In the end, the goal will be to keep my Spider-man comics and see how close to complete I can get. Today I picked up a few missing books at my favorite shop Rubber Chicken Comics in Bellingham. Jay has been picking up collections and runs of awesome books during this time – I assume from people like me doing COVID projects. Every week he is posting a new line of books, this Amazing Spider-man run is awesome. I got some great issues in great shape, but now and then I am willing to fill in some of the older missing books with those in poorer conditions to get the number filled. This one is a great example. Amazing Spider-man #25, the first appearance of Mary -Jane Watson, kind of (her face is not shown). A great addition to the collection, June 1965, looks like the original owner has signed the first page, might have gotten the pen to work by testing it on the cover but still, I did not have the book, and now I do. The only thing is Steve Ditko (look him up – he is a big deal) really did not seem to have a grasp on how to draw a photographer. Peter Parker looks maniacal holding a camera a few times in the book.
