I am documenting a few scrapbooks for a family. Clippings, cards, letters, and photos from World War II. Among the collection were some Hallmark cards from the 40s. This one is a Birthday card specifically for soldiers. It looks like it is hand-drawn and homemade yet is branded by Hall Brothers 1943. I tried to find info about it online, proving how spoiled we are, I assumed I could put the number into Google, and there would be a database of cards Hallmark has made. One was not found. Though I did read a piece that implies the number could mean only 25 made, I can not confirm—a great little bit of history.

The annual posting of the Rice Family Christmas Card. This year no photo, but a drawing by the oldest child. Anna drew this and asked for it to be sent instead – hard to say no. I took enough photos for cards this season, I was fine with not photographing one more. The dogs were easier to work with in this version.

Twenty-four years ago I shot my first wedding, Fall 1995… I remember the day vividly when I got home I told my (future) wife I would never do that again. If I have shot your wedding, there is a good chance I have shared some of the stories I have about that day with you, not to give too much away but I have tended to repeat some of the things I share with brides and grooms to help break the ice. I thought of that wedding on Monday when I was photographing the Boston Marathon, some of the formals were shot at the Weston Nurseries where I was for the runners. I learned so much that day, and I learn more each wedding I have shot since.

Other than that first one (they are not married anymore – at least to each other and I think it is safe to say that is a good thing) I have enjoyed everyone I have been part of. I truly love the job, weddings are a puzzle of logic, and I love both logic and puzzles. You know what the picture should look like at the end, and you go in with a well thought out plan, but at any time the plan can change, and you can panic or adjust. Adjusting is my specialty and I love getting the whole picture at the end of the puzzle no matter the path that leads us there.

The photographer is with the Bride and Groom more than anyone on a wedding day, even more than the Bride and the Groom. I am sometimes one of the first to see the Bride in her dress, that moment when she instantly goes from “I am getting married today” to “I AM GETTING MARRIED TODAY.” I am sometimes the last person the groom speaks to as a single man, standing with him off to the side with everyone he knows is waiting on him and I just remind him to breathe, and I get a genuine thank you because he did forget.

So when I get an email, text or in the case of Chelsea and Dan a lovely card, it means so much. They were one of my last 2018 weddings, a beautiful Milford Church Wedding with photos in Hopedale. The card has been hanging in the studio, and between seeing it every day and the memory from Monday at the Marathon, I figured I would share. I hope they do not mind, I share their words below. I can pay for Wedding services to find me couples, join referral groups, pay Facebook to share my photos, even do wedding shows – none of them will come close to the words of a Bride and Groom.

If you would like to see some more of my wedding work or even more words from Brides and Grooms, you can click here. From there you can even drop me a note if you or someone you know might be looking for a photographer. I know a guy.

The cards are coming in fast… each year I enjoy getting a bunch of cards that have photos I have taken. This one is from Charles River Bank in Medway, a shot I took last winter at Choate Park. It did not match up perfectly this afternoon, a little less white right now, though the pond is starting to freeze. Thanks Charles River Bank for using my photo – proud to say they are also my bank.

Would you like a holiday themed photo card from timricephoto? I am sending them out soon, some will have Golden Tickets good for prizes. You can win photos, books, even a free photo session. Only a few more days to get me your address to be entered. Click here for entry details. No strings, at the very least you can get a card with one of my photos on it.

Time for the annual “Not the Card” photo from the Holiday Card photo shoot. Fiasco is really the only word that works. One, I am not meant to be on the other side of the camera. Two, without someone on the other side of the camera Josie will not pose. $80 in shirts, $20 for a scarf that matches the shirts from England, 3 hats that would not stay on the dogs head and 1 cat that decided (on her own) she actually wanted to take part in the shoot… though she never comes down stairs. I will share the real card right before Christmas… I promise you it is not much better.

Would you like a (different) card from timricephoto? And a chance to win a prize? I am having a Holiday Card Golden Ticket Giveaway. You give me your address and I will send you a card, and you might win a prize too. Click here to get the details and learn how to enter.
