Horsing Around
June, 30, 2013

Last day of vacation, there was time for a few more shots.  Anna had planned this one since the first day. We bought the horse mask last month, the kids thought it would be fun to bring it on the trip. It was big hit with other passengers. It even made into a formal portrait that was added to the wall of fame on the ship and the closed circuit TV. Back to life tomorrow… at least it will be a short week, maybe if I wear the horse mask at my desk no one will notice I am sleeping.

Last Dance
June 29, 2013

We said goodbye to Christian, our head waiter tonight.  He was awesome and I am not just saying that because he brought me 5 lobster tails one night. He was great with the kids, service and just a nice guy.  The staff put on a dance to Gangham Style, he told us about it last night, so Danny thought we should bring him the horse mask to help out.  Christian grabbed it and danced away. I am not sure who is going to feed me in the manner that I have become accustomed to going forward.

Miss Peggy’s Cove
June 28, 2013

Today was a trip to Peggy’s Cove in Halifax. It poured, and I did not bring a raincoat… I was soaked. The good news is it stopped raining as soon as we were back on the bus. I did not get many shots, but I got the best I could. We took a tour with a guide who talked about the history of Halifax.  Did you know every death in Canada originated from Halifax?  Every story begins with a boat sinking, blowing up, going missing and ends with homeless/nameless kids, thousands of houses being destroyed or everyone in Canada dying. Very beautiful place, very depressing stories.

Then back on the boat for dinner, horse mask fun and Danny’s debut as the next top karaoke singer. He brought the house down with his solo rendition of Living on a Prayer and then later with his duet with Mom on Don’t Stop Believing.

The Bay of Fundy
June 27, 2013

Headed off the boat today and drove down the Fundy Trail in New Brunswick, Canada. Wish the weather was better, but is still was a great time.  The views are incredible, one of those places that photos don’t do it justice.  Here are a few shots.

Elevator Fun
June 26, 2013

Greetings from somewhere in the Mediterranean… I have no idea where I am. The map on my phone says Guam, but I think it might be off. Today was an “at Sea” day.  So we rode elevators and ran around with a horse mask on.  Makes sense if you are here… maybe. The horse mask is very popular. The second picture is a random group that insisted on using it – and us – as props for all their family shots.

Tomorrow: Land Ho!  Which is not an expression for a prostitute island, I asked.

thedailypic•Yr4•267/365•Last Day of School

Last Day of School
June 25, 2013

Due to some traveling today, I am posting early… the subject was easy since this day has been circled on the calendar for a few reasons. Everyone one posts that first day of school shot, the kids with their new shirt, hair cuts and bright smiles already to board the bus with nothing but the future in front of them.  But there are not nearly as many last day of school photos, wrinkled shirts, shorts, lost lunch boxes and I do not care smirks. Here is our last day of school photo. Back on August 29th, 2012 I post a first day shot as thedailypic, it was weeks before the blog started (took me far too long to figure that out this morning while looking for the link) so I have added it below. I can not put my finger on why it looks so different.  Dan does have a different haircut and did grow a few inches this year. They both have the same glasses, same spot in the driveway… but there is a subtle change.

For the record, yes… I did plan thedailypic 301 days in advance. “See kids you look miserable in this photo and 9 months from now I will shoot the same shot but with smiles… brilliant!” I might need to get a life.

June 24, 2013

Not much to say, busy packing, watching hockey and trying to stay cool, I tried to get some new lighting shots but I set a bar too high with the last ones. I rented a big boy lens for my trip from LensProToGo (Check them out – best customer service I have experienced in a long time).  A Nikon 14-24mm, 2.8, the thing is a beast.  I have always wanted to play with it, but never wanted to drop the money without knowing how much I would use it.  I am not a wide-angle shooter.  My instinct when I have a wide shot is to crop the hell out of it. Even on this shot, I was annoyed that I did not shoot the dog hanging out the window of the car driving by… but he is not the subject.  Say no to cropping. I shot a few others in the neighborhood.  I was winded though the thing weighs a ton, but it is sharp, very sharp edge to edge.

Super-Moon 2013
June 23, 2013

The super-moon got a slow start, hid behind the haze from the day for a bit before it appear just above the horizon.  There were a couple other photographers hanging out when Anna and I showed up. While I was helping the woman next to me figure out some settings, Anna grabbed my camera and her shot is below, the full moon behind the clouds.  Then a stop on the way home to get a shot over the intersection.Next year I need to get to a beach for these shots.

Hide & Seek with Zach
June 22, 2013

My photo shoot with Zach turned into an impromptu game of hide and seek this morning. This was Zach 2(ish) year session. I have photographed this little guy since he was a few weeks old. Today was a blast, he was talking smiling, saying cheese for the camera.  We had fun hiding behind trees, chasing bubbles, the soccer ball and playing with trucks. Not sure it has registered with him who I am, I am sure he wonders who is this guy that meets him in the park and chases after him for an hour than disappears for months at a time.  At least I know he has to questions my hide and seek skills, I really have no chance hiding behind the trees he was picking out.  Here are a few more from the session.
