Twelve years ago, I met Ryan for the first time when his parents were featured in the dailypic – with their wedding photos. Today, I met Ryan again—this time in front of the camera for his senior photos, and he was a lot taller. His parents came along, and it was great catching up with all of them. Full circle moments like this make the photos even more special.

I had a few senior sessions today before the rain came in. One was with Katie. I first met her as a freshman, camera in hand, photographing sports for the high school. Since then, we’ve worked side by side at countless school events, she’s invited me into her class to talk photography, and we’ve spent time sharpening her skills together. She’s even stepped in for me at events I couldn’t make. Next year, I’ll miss having her nearby to swap stories and talk photos—but I have no doubt she’ll keep a camera close and be a great success as she takes on whatever’s next. But before that, we have a whole school year to photograph.

A first for me—a katana in a senior session. Jocelyn casually mentioned she had a sword and asked if we could use it. Of course. Without it, the portraits were already strong, but the addition of the blade elevated the session even more. And this is the real deal—she’s a second-degree black belt. I took her at her word… you see, since she had a katana and all.

Senior season is moving along. For the eighth year in a row, at least one of my clients is the son or daughter of a fellow classmate. Garrett’s dad and I graduated from Medway High far too many years ago, and it’s always an honor to keep those connections going. I have to say, Garrett might hold the record for looking the most like his dad at the same age—it felt like photographing his father in our Senior year. Best of luck to Garrett in his Senior year of golf and hockey.
