Sometimes, to look natural, we create a scene. Found a mushroom, set it up on a log, added some dirt and leaves. Four lights, a camera on a tripod, and 60 photos stacked into one — a technique called focus stacking, where the camera works front to back in small increments until everything you want sharp actually is. Been shooting with older gear lately. Nice to remind myself where the current technology can take me.

Cash is fascinating. If you personify it and think of it as a witness, imagine the stories it could tell.

I hung out with my son today — movies, a few errands, just a good day. One stop was the bank to handle some paperwork and feed the Coinstar. His job brings in a mountain of change in tips — more than anyone wants to count.

As the machine clinked away, it kicked this quarter back. Just a glance, and I figured it was old — it’s beat to hell. But nope. 2021. Without missing a beat, Dan said, “That’s exactly what something from 2021 should look like.”

Maybe it’s deeper than it needs to be. Maybe not. But if you say you made it through 2021 without any scars, I’ll show you this quarter. It’s seen some shit. But it’s still here.
